Your Role
The instructor inspires and guides kids and youth to create with code and technology with Discover Coding’s curriculum. You will create a fun, welcoming and safe environment for kids and youth to thrive in learning. This role requires you to ensure classes run smoothly and deliver the Discover Coding programs to our high quality and standards.
Responsibilities
- Teach our curriculum to students in our in-person programs
- Use strong classroom management skills to keep students engaged and learning
- Run programs with consistency and reliability
- Assess students’ progress
- Report program status to management
- Mentor technical instructors on classroom management skills and Discover Coding programs
- Provide and receive constructive feedback on how to be a better instructor and employee
- Sustain a level of professionalism aligned with company norms and values
Other Responsibilities may include:
- Building curriculum content
- Back-end support for our learning management system and program processes
Qualifications
- Level of Education: Bachelor of Education (Elementary preferred), Bachelor of Science or Engineering
- Minimum 1 year teaching experience
- Experience working with students of all grades K-9
- Knowledge and experience with coding and technology learning
- Knowledge and experience with curriculum development
- Eager to learn more about coding and technology
- Experience with Minecraft (Preferred)
- Experience with Roblox (Preferred)

DISCOVER CODING – SUMMER VOLUNTEER
Position: Volunteer
Location: In-person locations across Edmonton – must have reliable transportation to join us on-site anywhere in city
Job type: 3 hours/week minimum during winter and spring. 120 hours minimum required during summer.

Your Role
The Summer Volunteer assists our Lead and Technical Instructors to teach youth to create with code and technology with Discover Coding’s curriculum. You will assist with ensuring students are engaged in their learning, make sure the physical environment is clean and maintained, and be an extra person to help make sure our programs run smoothly.
Responsibilities
- Assist Technical and Lead Instructors in helping students with their coding projects
- Model kindness to everyone, responsibility with technology, and proactive communication to staff and students
- Make sure toy robots and educational technology is charged and put away properly
- Play with students to encourage engagement in activities
- Assist with supervising kids during their breaks
- Encourage students of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences to practice problem-solving and creativity in coding
- Be available for small housekeeping tasks
- Work collaboratively and proactively with a team, following the lead of the Lead Instructor
- Potentially help keep kids entertained or engaged in an activity if troubleshooting technology issues arise
Other Responsibilities may include:
- Supporting Program Manager with housekeeping or administrative tasks
Qualifications
- Experience working with students in grades K-9
- Strong knowledge and experience with coding and technology
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience with Minecraft
- Experience building computers (preferred)
- Relevant teaching experience and/or leadership skills (preferred)
- Experience facilitating groups of children and/or working youth programs with proven classroom management (preferred)
- Standard First Aid Certificate (preferred)
